Princely House

Liechtenstein is a constitutional hereditary monarchy based on democratic-parliamentary principles. This means that the position and duties of the prince are defined in the constitution, and he decides on laws together with the parliament elected by the people (= Landtag).

Parliament

The parliament (Landtag) is elected by the people of Liechtenstein. The parliament consists of 25 representatives. Together with the prince, the parliament forms the legislative branch. The parliament participates in the legislative process and deals with state treaties. It oversees the entire state administration.

Government

The government is the highest executive body of Liechtenstein. It implements what is stated in various laws. The government consists of 5 members: a head of government and 4 government councilors.

Courts

For private criminal law, there are different courts in Liechtenstein: the District Court, the High Court, and the Supreme Court.

For public law, there is the Administrative Court and the Constitutional Court.
